Hi all, Urgent help needed!!! Gear issues?? Help Help Help

Hi all,

Really lost at the moment and need help from my fellow Mercedes gang! Any help please see below
Help within Leicester/Loughborough or midlands area!!!

I own a manual 6 speed merc e220 cdi (amg bodykit) 2013. i have a habit of keep faffing with the gears even when im at the lights, i.e take it out of the gear and put it back in!! (yes im weird and my kids tell me all the time, its not normal, lol)

I basiscally have somehow jammed the reverse gear or its jammed itself, its funny because all gears from 1-6 work completly fine, picks up speed no issues with driving, however no reserve gear exists now. Even when the car is off with clutch pressed it wont go into reverse as in wont even slip into the gear, its like there is no gear. goes into 1-6 without issues though.

been told by a few to might aswell change the whole gearbox??? and a few have said without opening it, it could be a "gateway linkage" problem. All these sound abit excessive and certainly not looking to replace the whole gearbox as it doesnt make sense. Just the reverse gear is non existent because either i might have jammed it in the linkage or something is stuck or jammed??!!

Please does anyone have any reconnmendations who will know what im onabt or any good gearbox specialisists in and around this area??

Can you select reverse when the engine is switched off?
Press the clutch in and try to select reverse, also try first & second gears.

If you can select reverse when the engine is not running it is probably a fault with the clutch.

If you still can't select reverse, you have probably broken a selector which is inside the gearbox.
You could bring it to a gearbox specialist who could fix it reasonably cheaply.

If the lever goes into the reverse position but there is no reverse gear it sounds like the selector fork has broken
If the lever won't go into the reverse position the linkage may have broken.
These are both fixable by a decent gear specialist.

He probably parked in a tight spot and got stuck, realising he has no R gear

Hi all, apologies, tried to log in but completely forgot the passwordlol.

Thank you soo much for your help & knowledge. had a few mechanics who said change the whole transmission??? great stuff hey (its always the one's who dont have a clue, that always jump to the extreme) managed to find a local gearbox specialist to sort.
