Well this is my first time posting in here. New Mercedes C180 '98 owner (well new to me anyway!)
Really pleased with her, looks nice and goes well. First time i've had one, and i can see why all of you are such fans.

Two small queries though if anyone could help.

The first has me completly stumped. When the engine is on tickover or very low revs there is a hissong sound from the right side of the drivers area. The only way i can describe it is it'sa like the hiss you can get from speakers sometimes. When accelerating the noise goes away. it's not being drowned out, but it actually goes away. Any ideas?

Also the radio reception is quite poor. Can only receive local stations within a few miles of where i live, whereas on my other car i can hear them all the way down in Reading (I live in Slough).
Now it has a Nokia handsfree kit fitted, but has had the cradle removed, so could this be anything to do with it?

Many thanks for any help that you can give a newb such as myself......

The hissing will be a vacuam pipe that has come off, under the dash, as max depression is at tickover and would go away above Idle.
if your aerial is in the rear window, the amp may be faulty or not plugged in.
though I probably have the same radio, I cant remember if there is a local or DX setting, will look in the morning.

The hissing sound you decribe is possibly coming from the vaccuum adjuster for your headlights, it is the switch numbered 1,2,3 next to the headlight switch. Check if this is working by shining the headlights on a garage door or similar with the engine running, when you move this switch through it's range you should see the headlight beams move up or down slightly. If this does not happen it's very likely that one of the vaccuum tubes is disconnected, this is not uncommon and if you do a search on the forum you will find what to do to access the back of the switch and reconnect the tube.

Well, that shows the benefit of picking your brains guys. Searched on here for headlight adjustment, and lo and behold the purple pipe has broken from out of the nearside headlight. So will order a new fixing tomorrow.

Also checked the amp and is all wired, so is there any way of checking if it's a good un or not as this would seem to be the likeliest problem.
