Hi all I am new to the forum after recently picking up a clk 320 elegance from my Dad who sadly passed away recently. Just looking on some info on how I can see if the car has any service history with Mercedes as we can't fund the book for it. Apologies if this us not allowed to be posted here but if somebody could point me in the right direction that would be great. Many Thanks.

Welcome, sorry to hear about your Dad, sounds like a nice motor you've got there. :)

Condolences to your loss.
Regarding the question MB will assist in detailing the service history, the info will be on thier central database, so go to a dealer local to you (if the the dealer your father used is afar).
The details of what should be included in each service can be found on the ESS (electronic service sheets) which you can see by fictionally making a service booking for the car on the mercedes website. If you plan on keeping the car, then a reputabale merc independent is key.

Hi guys thanks for your replys and condolences. So if I was to make an online service appointment I will be able to see the past service bookings? I can then just cancel the appointment? Thanks again.

They should just give you the information over the phone. Have the vin and reg numbers when you call.
Did your Dad have any servicing done by MB or MB independents. Try them first..

Hi no to be honest my Dad brought the car 2 years ago and only done 100 miles in it. The car was just sitting there most of the time. I have just put a new alternator in it and it has just passed the mot for the next year with just wiper blades needing to be replaced. It does have a few bits that need looking at. The electric roof didn't seem to be working and it has a bit of a scuff/dent next to the wheel arch. I am in 2 minds if I should sell it on or keep it as a spare. I have a company vehicle myself so not sure I would get enough use out of it. On the other hand I'm not sure I would get enough back selling it privately to make it worthwhile selling

Hi there.

Unless rust has got hold of it, its a free car that you (and the missus?) could keep as a summer run around, once you get the roof working, given you have a works car for serious mileage.

If you let us know where you are, someone maybe able to recommend a good local independent MB garage who can help you with the service history but also give you a fair appraisal of what needs doing / how much money it would require. 9/10 times, you cannot trust a main dealer to do that.

It would give you information and options so that you then sell (not the best time now of course being mid winter) or throw a few hundred perhaps at it, and have a memory of your dad to enjoy the sunshine in next summer. I doubt it would raise a lot of cash being an older MB unfortunately....

Advice available on here, but a good local indi would be a one stop shop for a nominal cost and a cuppa.

Hi I completely understand what your saying. I have just spent a bit on it getting the mot done and the alternator done so it is at least running and on the road. I also know I would probably be lucky to get much more than £1500 tops for it in its current condition as its a 53 plate car on 124,000 miles. I am located near Ipswich in Suffolk if anybody knows any decent local independent garages in that area I could get to take a look? Many thanks for the replys guys, much appreciated.

Hello and welcome
I don't think you will be able to track any past service history from Mercedes with the car as it is too old and these had service booklets which were either given in at service time or left with the servicer.
Digital didn't really start until roughly 2007 or later?
I tried a couple of times to retrieve service history for a few of my past Mercedes and found only one was helpful in telling me that I would need the V5 in my name, drivers licence and the car in person before they would give any details, this was from the main dealer who had serviced the car. It meant a 105 mile one way journey so I never bothered. As luck would have it I did find the service booklet under the passenger seat where it had slipped out of the cover :D
Once I had the booklet I wanted to trace what had actually been carried out on the car during the services. The second service Mercedes blatantly denied ever having or seeing this car in for servicing even though their stamp was in the book and the servicers signature on the booklet.........Data Protection at its worse, who knows. Maybe the past 6 owners and the 6 different number plates might not have helped
Another avenue to try is the MoT garages that have had the car in for MoT's, they can be of a great help too. You'll need the V5 and the old mot's or you can see the history on line through the DVLA Mot site.
Good luck with your search.

Alex Crow near Stowmarket has a good reputation though I am not too sure whether he likes older Mercedes??

Hi and welcome.
Sorry to hear of your loss.

Although it may seem a high mileage you regularly hear on here of MBs with well in excess of 200k miles still running like new.
Up until recently I had three approaching 150k that still drove perfectly (now down to two after one succumbed to tin worm).
All 4 of my current MBs have over 100k .

Yes I suppose for its age the car is actually not that high mileage really. Other than the scuff/dent in the second photo and the roof issues the bodywork and interior seem in fairly good condition really, I have attached a few images of the car. I will try the Stowmarket indi dealer. Thanks for all your help wasn't expecting to get this kuch good advice so quickly.

That has the potential to be very tidy.
Some good cleaner on the interior, sort the dent and roof and it would be a great summer weekend car.
Being a 320 it will be smooth, quiet and relaxing to drive but still be able to lift it's skirts and hustle when required.

No you can see what's due in the next. As mentioned to see past you need to go to a dealer or an indy with access to the digital service book.

Very nice and well specced motor with a great interior combo. A nice weekend job getting the leather up to nick and cleaned. Getting the bumper and wing sorted wont cost the earth.
Enjoy the ride and keep us updated.

Hi, sorry for your loss. A bit of a generalization I know but I wouldn't get too hung up on service history, people who buy a Mercedes tend not to neglect servicing, on a car that is approaching 20 years old overall condition is far more important than a fully stamped service booklet. Your dad's car looks very tidy.
