I'm new to the group, have a lovely E220D AMG 40K on the clock and I've joined you guys to try and get some clarity on an issue that I have with it.
I get a constant clunk when it brakes to a stop, then the same clunk when I let the brakes off to move. Sadly, it also does it fairly often just bouncing over potholes or lumps & bumps.
At first I thought it was suspension based, but today, I jacked it up and played turn the wheel and have noticed a good old clunk when I turned the propshaft & held the disc. I can get about 1/3rd of a turn on the propshaft with a clunk at each "stop" I then held the propshaft still and turned the disc, still clunking.
My assumption is... this means worn driveshaft bearings, coz if it was propshaft bearings then it wouldn't clunk when I only span the wheels.
Also, is this it? I don't see how this would clunk going over lumps & bumps, but definitely can see it on stop/starts.
Anybody got any ideas, I don't want to spend £500 on replacing driveshafts if its some suspension bushes.
Help please. - I have a great video of this but its 12mb and so is too large to upload!
thanks in advance for any good ideas
cheers
