Hi could someone send me the sheets for M271 Rocker cover gasket replacement, as I believe it has a torque setting and if it is not tightened correctly it will leak as mine is at the moment.

Thank you. On going to change the spark plugs the other day I found that the recess for the plugs were filled to the top with dirty oil that has leaked from the gasket. common fault apparently.

You would hope, but looking at the video so much has to be removed to get the cover off. Not like the old days when it was just 6 bolts and pull it off. lol. I will have to get to it soon as after a long run you can smell the oil. Maybe I should carry a fire extinguisher with me ha, ha.

John Look ,,my advice to you is 1 use a camera, or a phone to picture every step .This way you can see how to put the parts back in the right place after the jobs done . 2 get a few containers, and mark them to let you know what the screws or bolts are for .or even refit the screw or bolt if there is a nut on the end to hold them in place. Just take your time, and dont rush .Any problems along the way ,then shout up for us to help you . Good luck .

Have you tired just tightening the bolts to 10nm to see if that sorts the leak .

No, I will take a look, bit they are a common problem on this engine. It is actually 5 different gaskets.

Well this is what happens when the Rocker Cover Gasket leaks. I have got the new gasket, but cannot do it for a week as I am away. I have cleaned all the oil out of the places where the spark plugs go and re-torqued the bolts. Only 3 of the spaces had oil in them, the back one had a tiny amount. I supposed it is a good job that oil does not conduct electricity. Well this will be the second job on my return. The first one being to get the compressor off the 05 EClass and fit new bottom breather hoses and valve. Of course, always clean any oil out of the bolt holes unless you fancy cracking something.

I would guess that a lot of people don’t know that when you change the spark plugs , the bolts that hold the plug coils down are part of the rocker cover hold down sequence .

Yes I think that it is the same with the earlier EClass as they had the same 2 bolts per spark plug coil. I am still putting my 05 Eclass back together after changing the bottom breather pipe and valve. Not the easiest of jobs, having to remove the compressor. If there was a slightly bigger gap at the engine side you could replace it after only removing the intake manifold.
