Hi all.

Just bought my first ever Mercedes after admiring them for many a year.

Its a 190E on a 'H' plate & under 100k miles on the clock and a near perfect body.

I was having a quick 'Merc surf' & fell upon this fantastic site. WOW, its answered so many of my questions already. :D

Sorry if this is in the wrong area of this forum (feel free to move it) but what in your opinions are the sort of common faults I should be aware of with my 190E? What should I be keeping an eye on? & what tips would you give to a new owner?

Thanks in advance
Dan

Hi Dannyboy, yes its a great site, plenty of friendly technical support & advice.
I am new to mercedes ownership and am enjoying my 10 year old C class (have wanted one since i was about 18!). Much nicer than my company car & more comfortable.

Thank you all for the kind welcome.

Im in love with my new baby & I almost look forward to going to work in the mornings now..almost.

Ive got the weekend off to touch up a few odds & ends & have a proper look under the bonnet.

I need to get a 3 point star for the bonnet as its missing, a new aerial, a tail light lens & some proper rubber mats.
Ive got to get one small dent knocked out & one or two places need a steady hand with a touch up pencil.

Its like Christmas :D

Hi Dannyboy, and welcome.Listen to these guys. They know what they're talking about.Try Ebay or Craigslist for the star and the other bits that you need.Incidentally, many thanks to those who guided me in the search for a stainless exhaust.Very helpful.

Replaced the Star on my W210 a couple of months ago, purchased from the MB dealer for around£15:)

There are some aerial rod sections on Ebay right now, they are easy to fit

Cheers again guys.
Managed to locate a rear lens. :p

The MB dealer wants £22 + vat for the star emblem. I’ve found one on ebay for £3 (please dont all start bidding ;)) but its a different part number to the one quoted by MB.
Are they inter-changeable or would it not fit the hole in the bonnet?
Any clues would be gratefully accepted :)

Think I’ll get my local radio shack to fit the aerial as I'll be getting some new speakers at the same time.

Most of the bonnet star's on Ebay normally reach £15+ by the end of bidding. So best to ask the seller if it will fit. Enjoy your car, its a proper Benz. I remember (got them somewhere), when Car Mechanics bought a 190 as a project car, they were amazed at how well they were built!
