still having problems with idle on my e280, i have been told it may be the air mass sensor,if anyones had this problem before i would like to hear your views, at the same time does anyone know where i can get one cheap as i don`t want to pay full price if its not that,thanks

You should be able to test it by unplugging it. Causes the ECU to switch to default settings, which, if it's way out, will be an improvement.
You can normally get the innards for the MAS which are a lot cheaper than the full housing from MB. Try your local Bosch agent.

thanks for the help, i did what you said unpluged the air mass sensor and no change in idle ? could it be the lambda sensor and if so is there a way of testing these

I had similar trouble with idling, especially at startup with my c200. I fitted a new MAF and the problem went away. I bought a new bosch MAF from Euro car parts at half the price of merc. A good indie should be able to test your lambda if you want to try that first.

With Mercedes and BMW its never a 02 sensor problem. The 02 sensor is sending a signal to say the Air/Fuel ratio is wrong. Your problem lies in the Air Mass Meter or a faulty fuel injector or an air leak.
