Hi all,

Has anyone encountered this?
Car has been perfect for five years. Mercedes roadside changed a flat battery on Tuesday and the fan belt has been running inappropriately since, mostly when locked and parked. Mercedes garage disappointing, claim they need more time to diagnose fault codes yet insistent it is not connected to battery change. I'm worried costs are going to spiral. Wonder if it is a known "thing."

Any assistance gratefully received.

Ray

You may have to begin an investigation .
First think is front SAM - check the relay- working properly or not,
Second onto a fan you must have a control module which can be defective .
Fingers crossed it is not ECU. :)
Good luck.

Thank you Ivan,

When I first called the dealership the workshop surmised that it may have been caused by systems resetting after the battery change (which may tie in with the SAM thing) .

I'm afraid I am too unlearned to start my own investigation. There was no onset to the problem though, car was running fine for five years.
Hope I haven't used up my good fortune!

Smart + others :)
Do you mean the engine fan? Not fan belt which drives the water pump, alternator etc? Unfortunately cars can go wrong at any age, to go 5 years without fault is good going.
