Afternoon,

I've just got myself a R plate E300TD avantgarde estate and it's a great car :D

A couple of things that I was wondering is if there is a "how to" on how to change the radio? It already has an aftermarket mini disc player but i would like to swap that out and put my pioneer head unit in?

Does anyone know of a good Mercedes Specialist in the Somerset/Bristol/Bath area? I don't really fancy paying £95/hr labour rates at the local dealership!

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi Hasnic,

Welcome to the forum.

There's a specialist in Ilminster called Cornerstone who advertises in the Merrcedes Enthusiast magazine - don't know any more than that.

I use a chap called Steve Bateman, Bath Road, Bristol. His number is: 0117-972 0600.

Plus there's a place I believe called Parkway Automobile Engineering in Fishponds, Bristol. The number there is: 0117-965 6164. Haven't used them myself, but I've seen them recommended elsewhere.

Surprisingly for somewhere the size of Bristol and Bath, there's very little choice.

Hope the info is of help.

Regards,

Kevin

Somerset Mercedes specialist

I recently has mine serviced at Cornerstone near Ilminster. I'm very happy with the service and cost, they seemed quite knowledgeable. They even supplied a courtesy car no problem, just a small admin fee to cover insurance for the day.

Their phone numbers are
01460 55585
07889 444112

Hope this helps

99% of stereos can be removed using a pair of standard tools - remove facia (if applicable) and theres two holes 1.5" apart right on the edge on eitehr side

buy a tool from halfords - its just a bit of wire (or make one from an old coathanger) bent into a U shape.

stuff wires into holes until resistance is felt, then another 1/2"

pull stereo out

if it has a std ISO plug (1" square plug with lots of wires) the new one will just clip on / in.

you will also have to remove the frame - this is just done with a screwdriver bending the tabs out of the way and allowing the frams (thin sheet metal) to come out.

put new frame in, bend tabs to hold it, clip new stereo to plug, shove new stereo in.

sometimes they add an extra security bolt at the back - in which case the carpet to the side of the console will have to be removed - in my car it just pulls out (witha bit of force) aloowing u to see the side / back of the stereo. undo bolt....
