Hi all - I wonder if anyone can quickly let me know what this means: Driving in to work today, nice & gentle cruise on the m'way at 75, then hear a warning buzzer/beep and see a little oil can with a line underneath with "Hi" next to it flashing in the trip counter. After a few seconds it went out and didn't come back on for the rest of the journey but since I've not seen this error before and I don't have my manual handy I was wondering if someone could let me know what it means in case I need to check anything before going home tonight? I'm paranoid now that something could get damaged in the engine :( Is it high oil pressure/level/temp? too many possibilities  The car is an AMG C43 if that makes any difference and it's just had an oil service so "should" be all ok :-?

Thanks!
Mark

Perhaps someone will be along soon with more of an idea about your car, but my 2002 coupe almost always says the oils high after a service, i have the model with no dipstick and its rubbish, they are so accurate that even the slightest bit over and it throws up the malfuction of High oil level. Hopefully this will be the case for you..and it isnt anything too serious.

Thanks for the reply Coolpot - if it is just that then fine, it's just I haven't seen this particular warning light before so wasn't sure what it was for. I'd prefer it to have just said "hi oil lev" or "oil lev +" or something rather than the pretty picture + hi - unless it was just the beast saying hello to me

Cheers,
Mark

It certainly means the oil level is too high. But whether it is a bit of a blip on a sensor or not who knows, if its possibly on that model, check it manually. IIRC it has to be checked 5 minutes after switching off the engine when its warm.

there is no reason why your oil level should increase unless you've put some in. that is unless something else is getting into the oil.................which is rarely good.

Thanks for the reply Cnics - after closer inspection the line under the oil can is a wavey one so it is indeed a hi oil level warning, I'd just never seen that one before and it's not listed in the manual  It happened again on the way in to work this morning in exactly the same bit of road! I have checked the level though and it seems ok, maybe just a smidge high so perhaps it's just an overly sensitive sensor? There's nothing nasty in the oil cap so don't think it's fluid leaking in from anywhere. I reckon it's just that the guy who did the oil service must have put just a bit too much oil in - can't be much though as it only happens after the car has been sat overnight. Driving home after a day sitting in the car park at work and it's fine.

Cheers,
Mark

Many people get problems with the display showing the oil level incorrect when in fact it is correct, some cars even get faulty level sensors, some cars say 2 pints needed when the level is correct.
