Hi oil warning on CLK 430

I have a LHD CLK 430, originally registered in Italy, at the end of 1998. After about five miles at motorway speed a warning beep sounds, and a green oil can, with HI next to it appears in the mileage recorder segment, and the trip mileage recorder disappears. If I slow down to approx. 45 mph. the display returns to normal. The oil level is correct, the coolant temperature is correct, and the car runs perfectly. I suspect a faulty sensor, but I don't know if it means hi level, pressure, or temperature. Can anyone help?

The faster you drive the more the oil splash and it probably needs a little oil adding.

Do a level check with the car standing on level ground

Done that, changed the oil and filter approx. 500 miles ago and filled it to just below the full mark, slightly less than 8 litres. When I first got the car it was slightly overfilled, and I thought that was the problem. Thanks for the input. Martin, (CarNut)

If only we had the dip stick, I see that some cars have it again, I hate the electronic oil control
