Hi all

I'm looking for a 2013+ E350 and there seem to be quite a few out there at the moment.

One I'm quite interested has something I've not seen on any others which looks like a ripple on the engine cover.

I'm still shielding due to my wife so can't go and look at it in person just yet but wonder if this would give anyone cause for concern as none of the other engine bays I've see have this

I've had all the other German marques but this will be my first Merc. I'm inclined not to get an inspection on this particular one (2014 with FMBSH, below average mileage and clear MOT history) - am I safe do you reckon or should I shell out on an inspection (any recommendations as I haven't bought a used car in over 10 years?)

Cheers :)

Hello and welcome

It's just a plastic cover, that covers the top of the engine. Looks like a bit of heat damage. Always worth lifting it off and checking underneath

Welcome - aha!!
As said there are a good number around so might be worth avoiding any which look like there are any potential defects really

Check everything now when you have the time...or else repent at your leisure if there are flaw's. An OBD scan is always a good idea in any case when buying a used car.

Welcome a great car I have a 2011 one. I don't have the ripple on mine, & I would be concerned. As Malcolm says looks like heat has got to it.

Might have done a couple of circuits of the Nurburgring for all we know I’d certainly walk

the turbo blew up on my W212 E350 when i had it, it was a sad day as it cost me close to 1200 Euro to fix (mercedes wanted E5800 just for the turbo), i got a used turbo and my indie fitted it, but still it was expensive. Anyway, i never saw anything like what you are seeing on that V6 engine cover either before or after my turbo blew up, fyi.

How many miles on the car buddy?
Are you buying from a decent garage ?
59000 miles

It's off auto trader with an independent dealer who has pretty good reviews in a variety of places (4.9 with 137 reviews on auto trader, 4.4 with 32 google reviews, 4.4 with 24 Car Dealer reviews).

They passed it off as cosmetic.

Sods law that its the best of the bunch that I've come up with so I'm loathed to pass on it (although don't want to get my fingers burnt) so would definitely need a proper mechanic inspection.

Still deciding what to do.
