Hi

I'm new to this forum and looking to find a Mercedes specialist in Norfolk as I think my timing chain/tensioner needs attention. I have a 1995 S500 LWB which I bought in september 03 at 135k. Its now done nearly 143k and I noticed a 'raspy' noise under acceleration noise when I was out enjoying myself at 2am.

It was serviced at 142 at Robinsons MB in Norwich (£286 for an oil change :( ) , as I'd just moved so had no tools.

If anyone could point me in the right direction Id appreciate it, as the car is just going to sit there as Im to scared to drive it in case it goes bank.

From what I've ready 100-150 is not unreasonable for a chain changes and the history fo my car does show the odd 13k between oil changes.

I admit it - i bought the 1st one I saw.....

Hi

You could of come up to B'ham. Stoped in a 3star hotel. Had the service & done a bit of shoping at the same time. (Although on the shopping front you would be best of leaving the missus at home, otherwise you would loose the savings!!!!).

Can't point you in the direction of a specialist in Norfolk. But whoever you get. Make sure they know what they are doing. Changing the timing chain on a 119 engine is NOT for the faint hearted. Get it checked before embarking on replacment. MB as far as I am aware do not give a specific time. Cos its can be very fiddly!!

Hi Andy,

I'd be able to drop the car off for a few days as I now used my Volvo day to day to stop the Benz mileage running up at such a rate. How much would you charge to replace the upper timing chain tensioner and chain guides on a 1996 S500? Could you also quote for timing chain replacement although I hope this is not required. I would be happy to use you as there is no end of testimonials for your shop, but I do need an exstimate so I can make sure I have the funds !!!

Looking forward to your reply ....... :p

Try Auto Technic, MB Specialist at Chedgrave, near Loddon.

I have used them and was very impressed with their level of skill and service. They have all the equipment to carry out just about any job. Call Simon on 01508 522995. He will give you a quote the same day by telephone.

No I do not have any connection with them, but feel that we should let everyone know when we find good, and reasonably priced service.

Good Luck.

As mentioned by M6AJJ, Auto Technic, MB Specialist at Chedgrave have a good reputation, although I have never used them.

Williams Garage in Caister have looked after my cars for a number of years and have provided good service. They are not MB "specialists" but I know a lot of local owners use them beside myself. Their Phone number is GY 377021.

Hi. Thanks for the steer all. As a newbie on the forum it's nice to know there is a good source of knowledge out here in the East. Reckon the Ely option will be closest. Will report back on my experience and share with others on the forum. Many thanks for posts.

Hi. Can anyone recommend a good independent in the Kings Lynn area? I have a drive train issue on my GL but would prefer not to use the MB dealer. Cheers

Hi. Looked at all of the ones on this thread but they are all at least 30 miles away and my car is not driveable so was hoping to find somewhere closer.
