What sort of mileage have you guys and gals had your Mercs to?

Any major loss of performance in them after big miles?

I once knew a guy who bought a Vauxhall Cavalier GSI. He had one years ago when they were first launched and reckoned it was good for 140mph+. However, he recently saw one for sale for £1500 and bought it 'for old times sake'. He reckons he struggles seeing the far side of 80 out of it now! It's a J reg but does a 16 yr old car really lose that much after that time and 150k miles??

Reason for my question is that i plan to buy an MB in a few years time and plan to keep it for a while.

It may be touching the 200-250k mark by the time i've finished with it. Ok, i don't want to go blasting down the autobahn at 155mph in it - but i still want something with decent performance!

Also, should i expect to still be going strong at 250k? Anyone on here hit the big 300k mark at all??

They were if memory serves me correct 130BHP, 140mph is wishfull thinking, it might show that on the speedo but I thing 120/125mph is about right I used to have a SRI 130 many years ago.

As for maintaining performance its all about servicing.

I'd imagine you're right Carlsson20.

This Cavaliee is a right old dog of a thing - he bought it for heritage sake but i think it's basically ruined what memories he had of a good car!

Would love a look at that car sometime if you're anywhere near???

Cool, i used to work at Bamber Bridge.

I actually live between St Helens and Wigan, so about 10 miles from any of the M6 junctions 23-27.

I had a J reg GSi too, fast enough car for a 2 litre, 16 valve engine, but no power under 4500rpm. So to get any real performance meant thrashing it at high revs. Might explain why its like that after 150,000 miles.

:) Ice cream! :)

Don't you mean Hartleys?

On the subject of Samlesbury, I'm pleased to see they are doing something about the road. So many have died there over the years.
Saw the crash couple of weeks ago, SLK stopped an artic in it's tracks.
Regrettably the driver was killed.

Friend of mine did 300k in a W210 straight six diesel. Rust got it in the end.

I used to manage a site in Billinge as well, moved it to St Helens in 2005.

As for the mileage my previous W210 ran better at 129K miles when I sold it than when I bought it with 17K on. My current W211 is showing no signs of it's 52K miles Apart from being covered in salt at the moment :(
