1987 E190 2.3 with 240000km , the oil pressure guage reads 3 and over at anything over 1500rpm , idling about 2.5 on the guage . what is happening is that the oil is leaking out the oil filler cap. does this sound a little out of the ordinary or should the pressure be that high and what would cause such oil pressure.

the oil prssure *should* be at 3 while at any revs above idle. lowest acceptable pressure when hot is about 1.5 (or maybe even 1.0) bar, at idle.

the leaking oil filler cap has nothing to do with the pressure reading, but it should be replaced immediately. they do start to leak after time, and cost very little to change. trust me, if you leave that problem to get worse, it will get *much* worse.
