Greetings, I have an aquaintance who owns a '73 280SEL 4.5 and has added all sorts of amps and lights to it. Consequently, his stock alternator of 55 amps is not keeping up. Is there a higher output alternative available?
TIA

Most modern MB's use 85-90 ampere, your Bosch agent will have a list with the right regulator.

theres no such thing as a 280sel 4.5 - theres a 450 sel, or a 280 sel 3.5.. (which is what I assume it is) - a w108 chassis...?

I have had a look at the epc - and all the alternators of the time that I can see are 55A - some (including one on the 108 ) are 35A -

I think the best option is a good dig round the 'junkyards' and try to find somthing with a similar mounting method - or talk to Mr Bosch..
