my 1999 c230k all of the sudden seems to be over revving. instead of a smooth shift from gear to gear @ roughly 2500-4000 rpm, the engine will go up to 5500-6000rpm and not shift unless i let my foot off the throttle.

seems i have to always back off the throttle to have it shift gears. there is 115,000 miles on the c230k and i just got the tranny serviced at the dealership last week.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

This would show it to be the torque converter to be on the way out I think.

Do a stall test foot on the brake, put the car in D and press the throttle, the engine should not go over 3k rpm. Only do this for a max of 20 secs

when the c230k transmission was serviced, they changed the fluid, filter, gasket, and filler cap. they made no mention of changing the torque converter fluid. will try your test.

is the torque converter fluid in need of a change?

The fluid in the box is the same fluid as in the converter, it is pumped round and round

thank you so much for all you responses. i am a bit confused about the transmission fluid capacity.

--owners manual 7.5 Liters.
--Haynes manual 6.6 Liters from dry and 5.5 Liters with fluid change.
--MB dealership service reciept states 4 Liters.

from what you posted, i believe the torque converter is not a seperate chamber of fluid within the gear box, but a connected chamber encompassed in the transmission circulation system?

secondly, is it easy to replace the torque converter, or is that going to incorporate a whole transmission replacement?

by the way, you have been a great help.

A car built after 09-09 will not have a torque converter drain plug.

The filling amounts are here
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=25558

On a box where the converter can be drained then the full amount is used, if the converter is not drained then the lower figure.

The converter can be drained by taking off the cooler pipe and spinning the engine for a few secs.

Yes the converter is not part of the gearbox, as the gearbox is lowered and the torque converter remains bolted to the flywheel, and it is replced seperatly.

I strongly advise you to go to one of these gearbox specialist, they are all honest and they will not cheat you

i want to give an update to the over-revving problem the c230K was having.

i searched and read different posts and found out how to reset the transmission. the link below gave me the best information. needless to say, the transmission(knock on wood)has been shifting like normal since i reset the transmission.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210-e-class/1387073-post-graduate-education-your-22-6x.html

seems a wire on the supercharger came loose. the tech noticed it when he was doing the tranny flush.

thank god for message boards.
