I have a 300 D 1981, and after I changed the thermostat, rebuilt the radiator I still have a high temprature, aprox 96 F? ( the new thermostat opens around this temp.)
do you think is normal?
can be something else I haven't done

This seems a bit high, what type of fan coupling does your car have?, and have you checked that its operating correctly?

Not owning a diesel im not sure if im being correct, but thermostats usually open around the 80-85 degrees mark. If yours is opening at 96 thats way too high.

Hi,

When you say 96F (C), is this the temperature rating stamped on the thermostat, or is this from your own experiments?

Did you buy a genuine replacement thermostat from MB?

I think that MAT is correct and for a diesel the rating should be lower (I think I have an old one and I'll check).
