Question 2.
Reading the owners manual, I found out the origional owner must not have read it.
I was told it took regular gas. In fact it reads " if you can't find premium only fill to half and top off with premium ASAP".
The origional owner drove 80,000 miles on regular.
Any Comments? I see it is 10-1 compression. The computer must have retarded the timing to keep it from pinging.

In the UK, 95RON is "Premium Unleaded" (standard), whereas 98RON is "Super Unleaded". Most newer cars will run quite happily on any fuel between 91RON and 98RON, although performance will be worse with lower power and higher consumption on the lower grade fuel. MB specifies 95 RON "Premium" fuel for their cars in the UK and Europe, though it may be different in the US. Using a higher grade will give a little more power and lower fuel consumption. (Sneakily, BMW have, for the last couple of years, specified 98RON as the small-print reference for their quoted engine power figures).

Below is an approximate comparison chart, these numbers can vary by as much as 2 grades:

RON MON PON
90 83 86.6
92 85 88.5
95 87 91
96 88 92
98 90 94
100 91.5 95.8
105 95 100
110 99 104.5

I doubt that it would have caused any damage running on a lower grade of fuel and the warning is probably there more from the emmissions point of view rather than any thing else, since the engine managment system should be able to happily adjust itself.
