personally - i wouldnt... most cars have just toe in / out adjustment. mercs and some other have a lot more adjustment - and they are all interlinked. a slight tweak / check is ok - but anyting more than 1 degreee i'd get checked with a proper 'geo-check - the castor / trail etc is also adjusted.

Ive had mine done when I replaced the tyres, its been checked since and its still not right. It has to be weighted down and as above there are a lot of things to check as against a 'normal' car. Leave it to the specialists.

I watched whilst two guys re-aligned my last car with one of the state of the art new lazer aligners. They have a database of all the cars on the road. They basically show each wheel on a screen, and all the data on how much each wheel is off on all 3 axis (relative to other wheels, camper and Toe). The car is put up on a hoist, and they can see the screen whilst making adjustment. Not all tyre specialists have this system, but you can ring to find out first. This system (used properly) allows alignment to minute tolerences.
