Steve the horn contacts are in 2 parts, the switch built into the air bag and the clock spring on the steering column.

You can unsrcew the air bag by removing the 2 x 28mm torx screws on the rear, you do need a 2" long bit to do this, do not unplug it but turn on and see if the contact is suspect in the air bag unit, by holding the back plate and pressing the horn. if OK then turn the steering wheel a little to or shake the wheel to see if you can set it off, also tap the center or wheel quite hard while holding the air bag.

The chances are that it is the clock spring that has gone and fairly easy to replace and I can give you the instructions.

Do not unplug the air bag while the ign is turned on, or it will record a fault

Hi Malcolm,

Pls let me know which thread this should be part of and I will nail them together.

It is for a member of another forum, and I would like him to join here as we can give much better advice than they can on a 230, I have helped him before.

Hope that this is OK Blobcat

The original fault was that the horn blew when going round corners and when parking
