Kenilworth was one of the hottest places in the UK on Wednesday as temperatures soared to 96F.While thousands basked in the sunshine on what was the hottest July day ever in England the sizzling temperatures took its toll on the infrastructure.

In Warwickshire the roads were spread with a special grit mix to stop tyres sticking to the road.

Second that. Working in Leamington Spa I've had 35 C showing in the car....having been parked from 8am in a totally covered car part (St Peters) all day!!......and a delightful 41.5 in the sun all day. Oh, and I have the joys of just about the only 210 in the whole world without aircon.

I've been in Warks for two years, and it has to be just about the most 'breezeless' place ever! Guess the clue is that it's the Midlands, eh?

It was the hottest July day for one hundred years. I seem to remember that we had the hottest July day for 99 years, last year.

96F? I'm guessing this about 36C. Most of the people on this forum are not americans.

No, Kenilworth is a very old town, when I lived nearby, we still used Farenheit, none of this new fangled Centigrade stuff!

My car showed 35.5 C in Whitstable yesterday, but we do get a bit of a breeze here sometimes. Probably why we have a wind farm offshore........

You don't expect this in Warwickshire. More normal in Turkey - I was out ther late June and they had some big problems on some of the moutain roads - completely melted

Floyd Landis, the winner of the Tour de France. I think the joke may be lost in the translation.

A least I don't use Jane's fighting ships as a source like Myros and Blobcat.

One day, Landis is out on his feet and looses eight minutes. The next day, he rides away from everybody and wins by seven minutes.

He crosses the line punching the air and photographers. He looks like he could do the stage again and still beat some people.

I think he new he couldn't win the tour without taking some drugs and he hoped he wouldn't be caught.

If he got away with it...then he would be set for life.

If my Avatar has ever been in Jane's fighting ships I will be surprised.
Does anyone know which ship I am using as an avatar and as a bonus which port it is sailing into?

I thought the funnel was the wrong colour for the QM2.

Is that ship really that old? cos it looks a whole like the QM2.

Very distinctive funnels on the Rotterdam, side by side which was unique to the ship. My Avatar does not do the funnels justice.
Hull plates in in 1956, launched 1958 and first voayge in 1959.
