as the title asks, how bad is a 2001 c180 (or similar) likely to be. my mother will be looking for a new car shortly and i'm trying to get her to break the cycle of fiats. C180 would be perfect for her but what kind of issues am i looking at in general, and what kind of money can she expect to have to part with

Not all bad despite what you may be told on here, of course some people have had bad one's, but I put that down to there expectations of mercs and how they should not go wrong but all cars have faults and mercs have a lot of kit. I saw yesterday a very nice C220D estate on 2001 130k for £6995, now that car did not do that mileage in a merc dealer on ramps. 1 owner and full dealer history, a bargain I'd say

There were some stories around that time of new C-classes having a tendency to have electrical problems, but I'd have thought anything like that would have been fixed long ago in a 5 year old car.
