How do I know if I have a DPF?

DPF as far as i am concerned is an acronym for dreadful problematic filter.

I had no end of problems with mine, (over-fueling, diesel ingress into the engine oil, as much as 20% at one stage), before I finally instructed Mercedes-benz in "no uncertain terms" it had to be removed.

Best thing you can do for your diesel car as far as i'm concerned is get rid of this dreadful system.

Not sure if the newer urea based systems on the latest Bluetec diesel's work any better but i'd be reluctant to be the guniea pig.

Would you also get rid of the EGR as well?

It seems to cause worse running and aprpox 8% worse fuel economy I am told.

I believe all it needs is blocking up and then the engine management altering to stop the fault light coming on.

At first opportunity I will also get the cat knocked out!

I can't see any reason to keep the EGR, it just seems to :

1. cause problems and clog up the system with soot
2. cause combustion chamber to burn at lower heat and less efficiently
3. cost me at least 5mpg

Does anyone know where I can get a decat for a CLK CDi or a EGR blanking plate?

I assume as these are common problems someone make a part for them?

Thanks,
Scott.
