Hi,

(1996 M-B C220 Diesal Automatic)

I would like to overhaul and clean the switch at the end of the
front screen Window Washer;Wiper Blade;Indicator lever/arm.

However I'm not sure how to remove the plastic cover behind the steering wheel.
I have the Haynes Manual, but for the life of me I just cannot see any references that would help me with this job.

Could anyone possibly advise me please.

Many, many thanks in advance.

Billy.

On most MB its a steering wheel off job, take a look here and find your car, with the first 6 number of your VIN, go to steering, then steering wheel

Malcolm, thank you for your reply and for going out of your way to also include your link.

A steering wheel job...oh oh.
I could do it but, gosh I'd better be sure I know what I'm doing.

Thanks again,
Billy.

Not sure if same as mine's a later model but the cover just prises out with a fingernail or blunt pen knife if you nibble your nails ! nice & gentle & eases out, don't try & bend one end up, sort of a cap like with four pegs on the corners.2"x1" allows access to dust out & oil Bit tricky when you're in there so be careful!Wouldn't think you'd need to remove the whole cowl behind the wheel just for this little job.
