It struck me the other day that I always monitor the flashing lamps etc when I remotely lock my 1996 C220 but I suddenly thought "would the alarm actually 'go off' if someone did whatever would trigger it! "

Does anyone know how it could be checked without of course putting a brick through the drivers window

We tested the alarm in exactly the same way as Spike suggested.
But we tested it on a W210.
I haven't tested my wife's W202 yet as all windows/sunroof close automatically when you set the alarm.

tried with the window down and after a couple of minutes the 4 way flashers came on but nothing else.

Anyone else have any info on the built in alarm systems specs etc for whatever make/type is installed in a 1996 W202 please?

You could always lock the car with someone inside ... leave them in there for a few minutes before asking them to open the door.

I locked my C220 with the remote on the drivers door.
Unlocked it with the key on the passenger door and the alarm went off and hazards flashed........not scientific though !

Cheers guys, given me something to go on.

I tried with myself in the car and after eg 30 secs waved my hand in front of the sensors on front pillars and the 4 ways went off like they did with the windows down - never noticed at first because I was waiting to silence the deafening horn blasts but nothing happened

So the alarm seems to respond but it doesn't operate the horn though the horn works on its own - I assume the car horn and alarm horn are one and the same unless anyone knows different :)

Next question of course is any idea where can we get details of alarm system? Theres nothing in the haynes manual that I can see.

cheers, Ian
