As above.

What is the best way to clean the bonnet star? I have noticed that it's quite grimey, and am wondering how best to retun it to a state of gleaming radiance....

Cheers.

autosol - comes up a treat.
I must get some more - the tube I have I bought to shine the hubcaps on my Viva back in 1985! so there's some strange brown liqueid that coes out of the tube with the polish these days. Still seems to work ok though!

Autosol is and was marvelous, I still have a tube from the 70's (it was the only product that would remove the tar and grime from the exhaust trim). Due to the slight seperating in the tube and seeing it on sale in Tesco for a couple of quid or so I lashed out expecting it not to be as good. Still excellent and great value.

Back to the subject, I use Mr Sheen on the star, brings it up great.

If you want it to really shine 15 quid gets you a new one.

If the chrome has crazed you will never get that shine back, its chrome on nickle on copper all on top of dog muck/carburetter metal (zinc alloy) like all the old cars door handles used to be, they always went tatty after a few years. All the plating metals are porous to some extent and the filthy water from out side your car will eventualy get to the alloy base, when this happens there is no return to glory.
Frequent wiping with an oilly rag will stop the degradation from starting but will not restore the shine to one thats getting tired.

Thought about fitting the star to the CL so I can pretend to shoot chav in Clios and Corsa but decided its more fun showing them the middle finger or the knuckle shuffle.
