It's relatively simple on a 123 series. Couple of screws under the speaker covers. Some fixings under the covers to the underside. Remove the instrument cluster and bobs your uncle. Can give a detailed response if its' a 123 your refering to.
Did you find step-by-step instructions on how to remove the dash? If so, please pass it on.
I Recently bought an '86 190E 2.3 8 valve (gold), and want to remove mine too, but am getting an idea of how tough it would be.
This may sound crazy, but if there are others who'd like to do the same, especially in the SoCal area ( i don't know if there are many members in the states), maybe we could do it together and find someone who would advise us (for cash).
On top of that, we could take photos and pass on how to do it step by step, noting the tricky parts.
One previous post on this thread mentions about WIS (Workshop Info
System) for mercedes. Search this forum for wis system and you will
get some info on it.
There is a gentleman who sells wis cd's whom you can contact who's
email is in one of the posts when you search for wis system.
I haven't taken the dash out yet, I am gathering info on it, but let's keep
this thread going so we can have more info on it from various experts.
Someone earlier has mentioned WIS (Workshop Info System) system.
I have read here that someone with SEAL11@aol.com email address sells
cd's for wis. You might want to send him an email and see what he has
and the price. Also, search on this web site for info on wis system.
Your pics are great, Keith. Sadly, though the plot was a little like those suspense movies that you think will end soon, but they keep going.
I may still do it, but would be panicky the whole time. I am concerned about breaking things. I took out the seat, which should be simple, but broke some plastic pieces even doing that.
Without some guide to removing parts, breaking some may be unavoidable. Even with your experience, it happened to you. Fortunately, your experience is a good guide for the rest of us.
In the meanwhile, I have had my hands full with more immediate mechanical problems...the ignition switch went out, then the overvoltage protection relay. When that got fixed, the emissions got really bad and the idle became uneven...maybe 5 or 10 seconds of smooth idle, then it falters for one-half second, with a violent shake of the car. Then it wouldn't start.
Suddenly my heater core problem seems small (especially here in Southern California).
My hunch is that there's some kind of wiring short, and it keeps ruining elec. components.
