Thought I'd ask this question as I've come across a few owners who, in our recent hot weather, turn the temperature right down to 'LO' and, when the fans ramp up to a deafening crescendo, turn them down.

I set my temperature to what I want (20), come rain, sun or snow, and let the electronics sort it out. OK, the fan speed might be high for a bit, but it soon reduces.

What to the well informed people on this board do?

Set mine to around 20/22 then adjust up or down a few degrees depending on outside temp, usually set to auto but sometimes 'er indoors wants a different temp.

Most of the year just set at 20c , but if it's really hot I put it on low and recirc for a few mins before putting it back to 20c

Leave AC on and adjust the temp between 18 and 24 depending upon the weather and roof position :D

I do the same. I occasionally tell it to stop blowing damn cold air into the footwells, as I get numb feet.....

I always have discussions with the wife to tell her that LO will not cool any quicker..... but it just gets me an ear full :p

I know a few people who constantly wind the temp and fans up and down. It won’t make it heat or cool any quicker but they do it anyway - perhaps they feel they have some control...

What I’ve always liked about Mercedes ventilation systems is that they can get the car to the right temperature without blowing at you. The vents are in the right position so you don’t get a numb forehead or hands that are too cold or too hot. It’s design like that that impresses me. :)

Yes I agree. On the newer ones, you can chose if you want diffuse/mix/directional air, makes a big diff on some of them.

Mine is turned down low during the hot periods and I start it on auto and turn the fan down as the car cools. :)

During the colder months the climate control is on and the temperature is set at 22°'ish :)

That's actually inappropriate and not funny at all!

Mine lives set to 17 C on Auto, where it cycles through all the vents on both sides.

Never use auto, it makes you deaf / randomly jump out of your skin / wakes you up

always set air flow from every vent
screen for demist in winter, and to combat heat soak from the sun in summer - never touch again for entire life of the car,
set body vents so flow over both hand and arms is perfectly equal - never touch again for entire life of the car,
set floor so that it warms feet in winter and combats heat soak from the engine exhaust in the summer - never touch again for entire life of the car
leave fans speed on 3 - never touch again for entire life of the car
set temp at 22 in winter and 20C in summer - because only having 9 temps points in the cabin and IR heat reflect glass all round isn't enough for Mercedes to get 21C right
on a normal car you just set at 21C - never touch again for entire life of the car

shoot anyone who ever touches vents, flow, temp or fan speed - set once correctly you never need do it again

Ditto - however my AC has three modes "Focus", "Diffuse" & another that I never use). - I use Focus with the roof open and Diffuse with it closed.

I always just use Auto with A/C on and set to about 20, up or down a bit depending on outside temp. It seems to work pretty well - OK noisy for a while but that is what is required for system to get control. Years ago I used to design similar systems and I would suggest this is pretty good, although I am not sure it is a fully air-mix system.

I'm surprised that on my W166 ML pressing AUTO does not automatically switch the a/c on like it did on my R Class & Omega before it. (and Emily's Yaris & just about every other car I've been that had climate control)
