On the 99' C280 as the illumination bulbs have blown, thanks.

Not familiar with your model - but probably common throughout the range - usually the knob just pulls straight off. Can be tight, when a pair of pliers with rag to protect it helps. Tiny 0.5W capless bulb in centre.

Thanks Tom......I take it thats the fog light (the orange light in the centre) that your reffering to. It's the writing above too eg "light's on" the bulbs out there too. I take it when you pull off this switch there will be a screw/clip of some sort to enable you to remove the complete light switch itself.

Stulc. That's the one, covers headlamps, front fog and rear fog. It's about the only switch bulb I haven't replaced recently. The knob comes straight off as I said, and there'll be a nut then holding the actual switch to the panel. If it's the same as the heater switches though you wont have to take out the complete unit, there will be another bulb of the same type then accessible for the perimiter lighting I'm sure.

From what I remember, the light switch on the C Class doesn't light up. Only the orange light to tell you when the fog lights are on.

Perhaps someone with a C could confirm this,

not odd, it just saved a few pennies for each and every car they sold - at that time cars were being built down to a price so every penny counted.

That's a fact. I remember a (very) long time ago when the Ford 'Consul Classic' was produced some member of Ford staff received a fairly substantial cash reward for coming up with a wiring harness mod which saved about six feet of cable on every vehicle!
