a quick one - am looking at an 04 ML 270 - current owner states car has FMBSH & remainder of MB warranty valid to transfer - can anyone explain how the MB warranty system / paintwork Mobilo setup works
Firstly - the warranty on an 04 ran out over a year ago so nothing on mechanical, unless he has paid for something extra.
The Mobilio isn't really a warranty as such. There are 2 parts to it.
The 30 year anti corrosion warranty that says if the car rusts from the inside out in 30 years they will fix it. This basically covers any paint defects, prematurely rusting wheelarches etc. It was brought in during the early days of water based paints where they stopped galvanising and E classes started to rust - but MLs aren't known for rust and yours is late enough that it probably doesn't need it anyway.
The second aspect is breakdown cover - this is pan european cover for mechanical breakdown and accident recovery but doesn't go quite as far as AA etc in that it doesn't cover for 'minor mishaps' such as lost keys etc. I'm not even sure about flat batteries.
Mobilio is activated at each main dealer service and lasts until the next one. So, service at the dealer and you're covered, get the next one done at an indie and you're on you own...but if you get the following one done back at the dealer, you automatically back on again.
It's basically a loyalty scheme.
thanks for your input on that score - I think the owner must have an MB approved used warranty but will need to clarify - are they generally usable for main items ??
Also check out Mercedes own 'Service Contract Plus' on the search facility.
Cars from 3 to 6 years old within a certain mileage limit are eligible for cover, subject to satisfying a preliminary inspection.
