Looking at changing my car for a towing vehicle (see my post towing with a C180) considered a ML as I can pick one up for £14k but have seen some bad posts on another forum, is it best to give the ML a miss ?
All feed back appreciated.

Sorry to be a traitor, but get a Landcruiser. Nicer to drive, cheaper to run, better equipped and MUCH more reliable.

Cheers

Hi Seight
Its apalling. I have a year old one and its dreadful.
Have a look at the www.Topgear.com owners survey, where its pretty much last in terms of owner satisfaction............Wish I had read that before buying mine !

Is yours an Amazon? I had a 1997 Amazon VX for two years and it was by far the most reliable car I've ever owned (along with Porsches!) I love my Merc W140 S500 but it struggles to match the Amazon in any area other than speed.
Maybe it is that current Landcruisers are not as well built as older ones, much like Mercedes Benz.

Cheers

Oh I see. All is clear now. Yes I agree, I test drove one a couple of years ago and that put me off for good considering the price of them.

I couldnt believe how bad they were till I got one, but its worth a look on that topgear.com site just to see how poorly rated it is, I wish I had read that before spending over £30K on mine !

My ML has gone back to MB Direct in Birmingham. Pity the poor sod who has it after me !
It was like a black cloud lifting when they wrote out a cheque for it !

My brother had an early ML320 which started going rusty underneath - there was no evidence of any underseal or anything that might do it's job! He got MB to take it back in exchange for an E240 estate....

Mr Fridge:

I was towing a 1200KG caravan effortless in a an Audi A6 V6 2.6, but it was front wheel drive and rear was a bit soft so I brought a P38a Range Rover. 4.6 V8 LPG - What a load of rubbish, electrical faults all over, only just got up hills, air suspension leaked, holes in the body, no Radio Reception, the only thing that worked well was the starter motor and self dimming mirror, surley the ML is better than a Range Rover? I dumped the RR for E200K T210 Which should as good as the Audi, but I have not tried it yet!

I've never been in a Land Cruiser but I will soon....

There seems to be a lot of bad vibes out there towards the ML but i have had mine (270CDI) for about 3 months now and i am very pleased with it, i get about 29mpg and when i put my foot down it goes very well for a two tonner, there are no rattles or squeeks and nothing has fallen off yet.
I think that some folks trade in their saloon car for their very first 4x4 and then make comparisons between the two! My previous car was a petrol C200 estate and this is my first 4x4.
The only comparisons that should be made are between other 4x4's and then the ML shines - in most cases....(My friend has a landcruiser and that is pretty good too!).
