When I BOUGHT (FROM NEW) My 2nd E 220 Estate back in 94 I had trouble with the "comfort zone" computer which was around the size of 8-10" long by 4-5" wide & was mounted below carpet, under panel door, under rear passenger seat just in front of rear nearside wheel.

At the time dealer said there were 5 fitted in & around the car in different places, but not known where.

But now I've got the E280 same model estate, was wondering how many this equivilent model has got, due to a few extra's like Cruise etc. (no aircon).
And where are they?
And what do they do?

Any help gratefully recieved.
Thanx.
Keith.

There's an ECU rack behind the battery. Your car will have an ABS ECU and an engine ECU in there. I think most other things had control boxes hidden round the car: the ATA unit is under the passenger footwell, the central locking pump under the rear passenger seat (estate) and most other things, apart from the OVP Relay by the battery, are in encapsulated plug-in units behind the fusebox

I've never found the cruise control module but suspect it's under the dash somewhere

The sunroof relay / control unit is mounted on the sunroof motor

If you compare an early low-spec car with a later high-spec car you'll see that most of the options had their own loom and control box. The wiring gets pretty busy on a high-spec petrol car!

No need for any apology Malcolm, I'm always pleased to see youv'e taken the trouble to answer, and thanks for including the link page.

Also Many Thanks to NICK, very informative as usual.
Itake it that low spec is pre update & vica-versa?

Many thanks to you both.
Keith.
