I have just bought a 2001 CL. It is in decent nick but there is a rust bubble about the size of a new 5p on the rear pillar and a few scratches and stone chips.

I was wondering if anyone here has had theirs respayed and roughly what it had cost.

Doesn't sound like it would need a full respray. Just a bit of a clean up. Last time I asked it was around £80-£100 per panel plus approx £50-£80 to blend in.
So assuming your rust spot - approx £160 to make it go away. The price generally goes down the more you have done and goes up the further south you live.

Cheers - I was hoping I could get away with just the worst panels rather than full respray but wasn't sure.

Southampton is about as far south as you get without wet feet so I guess I will be paying top whack

Take it to your nearest MB workshop, Ask them to submit a Warranty claim for it. There is a very very good chance they will pay.

Tell them You have owned the car for more than 6 months. Dont take no for a answer.

Providing the paint is original they will most likley pay

Check both c pillers and all the way around the arches for the slightest spots and claim for them to.

It doesnt matter how old it is, ive seen them pay for 2000 cars.

With full MBSH you have a 30 year rust guarantee. But even a recent MB service can be enough to get them to help. And there are many threads which show MB dealing with rust even when the service record is a bit patchy. So worth a try. The Southampton dealer is helpful.

Their recommended bodyshop is Triangle Sprays at Cadnam who did an excellent job when someone scratched my S class and another excellent job when someone backed into my brother's A class. So I agree with Colechelle's recommendation 100%. They will advise you the best course of action and may support a claim to MB or may convince you the rust is due to stone chips scratches or whatever. Very helpful guys.
