Try looking in the auto trader for similar models and compare prices, or buy a glass's guide which should tell you the value.

i looked at auto trader & prices where full on wild, ranging from chump change for a nicely loaded E to a full on rape for a tired 150k diesel.

I truly dont know what to charge.

I was thinking about £7750 ovno

However i have seen nasties offered for more

btw what is mercseller?

Glass's. psml. I would rather give my car away than follow there 'advice'

swift,

www.mercseller.com is a specialist enthusiast run site selling v. good used Mercedes - especially rare, low mileage or otherwise interesting examples. It's perfect for a car such as yours.

I sold a 75K mile 190E 2.5-16 using it last summer for what I was asking (£6,750). I'd been offered as little as £3,000 by boneheads who responded to ads in the Autotrader.

It is IDEAL for a v. low mileage car such as yours, especially when you are not used to the shark/idiot infested waters that are the used car business.

Richard is the man to speak to. He will get you the best price for your car.

As would we all, but unfortunatley my experience is that they are rarely too far out! No point shooting the messenger.

As a guide, In November I traded in my 2000 E240 (facelift but same spec) 70k admittedly but thats still regarded as low, FMBSH, basically mint and I got just under 8k trade-in. It was later advertised by a dealer for £10k so I guess it went for around £9.5k. (pretty much was glasses said). Based on that, the best I would have got as a private seller would have been just under 9 and that was 6 months ago. Yours is 2 1/2 years older.

It doesn't matter that it cost 32k new, so did mine, yet I paid £23,500 for it in 2001 when it was 11 months old, and that was from the main dealer. The E240 is the fastest depreciating E in the range - power of the 200 and economy of the 320 - I'm not knocking the car, I loved mine but it was a compromise model. I accept it has low mileage but the value of that is in the £200-£500 range only, about the same as if it was fully loaded with £10,000 of extras.

Anyway, the guide says that your car on a main dealer's forecourt would have a ticket of £7765. As a private seller your starting point is £6565 which, looking at what the traders and others are asking for similar age cars looks about right to me. I suspect you'll end up with around £6300. Ask £7750 and you could be lucky and find the right face (rare but it happens), but its far more likely you'll be met with a mixture of people offering £5k (you always get them) and total silence.

A car is never worth to others what its worth to us I'm afraid. Actually your comment reminds me how I felt when I was offered £8k for my C220. Thats the best I could do and I felt the same way - it was absolutely mint, low mileage, full dealer history, it even had 6 months warranty on it, and I'd paid £19k 2 1/2 years before. In the end, my Dad got the bargain instead!

Good luck.

I was at Manheim auctions this week and the Mercedes retail entered E240's same year as yours where making an average of £4200 with 75K to 100K on the clock.
Yours will be worth much more as a private sale with that amazingly low mileage...around the figure you posted I would of thought.

So that's what the trade value them at. To realise the value of the low mileage it has to be sold to someone who values low mileage

So forget eBay, Autotrader & etc and sell via Mercseller. Be prepared to wait 3-6 months to get the return you want

Exactly. You get it!

Trade value, books, guides etc mean v. little with an oddity such as this.

Your ideal buyer is someone who had one new, loved it, drove it into the ground and is looking for a new car. The question for them is: Buy a new MB for £35K+, or, more of the same at £9-11K when the car might last them 15 years of retirement, or second car duty, or?????

You can do the math.

hi all

I reckon a person could part an E out and make more than £4200

Nices cars shame about the depreciation.

I remember reading in top gear magazine about the w210 E, It said, or in words to these effect, that

"the E class sets the benchmark for luxury cars in terms of depreciation"

Thats was about two years ago

interesting comment. wish it where true.

Say my car was worth £6500. Thats similar money to a newish vauxhall corsa

If someone said to me "i'll give you my two year old corsa for your Benz" I would think about it, but try not to burst out laughing.

I think i'll leave my E on the drive and enjoy if from time to time. I would certainly enjoy it more than a corsa (excellent cars but not my cup of tea)

thanks for your help!!

Had a few issues with my 04 plate c220. (plenty of posts re the problems on this site) MB offered me a trade value of 14700 for the car. (even though I was only thinking of getting rid due to a fault - besides the point) I checked the Merc used car search on tinternet and the same year, same model same mileage and colour car was selling for 18k. It's the way it goes. Thats why I keep my trusted Vauxhall Astra even though its 5year old (ish). Whats the point in getting rid if you can make use. I use the Astra for work and let the wife use the merc. We used to keep two good cars, now we just keep one newish one and I'll run the Astra into the ground.

To be truthful it quite hard work keeping two cars in mint condition, and there is something to be said for having at least one car that you can park anywhere.

That's how we all feel, but people who are stretching themselves to spend £7k on a car can often only afford to fuel, repair and insure a corsa. It's not just the purchase cost. If it were, I'd have an E55 on my drive. I could just about pick one up for what my 270 cost me. Running it however, is quite another matter!

Don't forget to sweep the rust up. :D

Seriously, you'd be better off enjoying it. If you start to want to make money out of cars (or even buck depreciation), you'll get in a real pickle. It doesn't work, unless you buy supercars.

Harmonic balancer (Crankshaft pulley) on V6. Recall in US, but what about Europe?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a '98 C240 which has one of the dodgy crankshaft pulleys. The part number which you can see on the pulley is A112 035 00 00. Apparently this number along with A112 035 06 00 was subject to a recall in the States due to the outer metal rim coming off the inner one... there is an elastomer sandwich in between. This may puncture the sump and the timing cover.Details of this recall are here:

http://www.whnet.com/4x4/pix/SC2005020003.pdf

The recall is due to "a supplier quality problem"!

How likely is Mercedes UK to replace this item as it is a well known sub standard quallity problem?

What is the correct part number for replacement?

How much is the pulley?

Any comments would be appreciated!

I copied this from another post, something to be aware of in the E240 engine. Its not terribly bad if you do the replacement...but if not you can lose your engine. Its the only downside I see to what seems to be an absolute gem of a car.
