How to add Aux in to Audio 20 with no Aux Input selector!

Hello All.

Having come to this site searching for answers to the lack of an AUX Input on the Audio 20, I see that it is a problem suffered by a lot of people.

I came across the answer the other day on an American MB Forum. They had a link to a German MB Forum where the procedure was explained. It's a trick I have used before in the early days of Car Radio. I had no idea it was so easy to implement on the Audio 20 with no AUX Input selector.

I carried out the small mod to my own unit and it worked a treat.

I am mentioning this here in an attempt to help out those people who are in the same predicament as I found myself in a week ago.

I presume that this mod is common knowledge so I will not outline it unless asked. Just trying to help really. This is not the mod where you buy the connector from MB and then connect it to the empty connecter already under the carpet. This is specifically for those Audio 20 units which don't have any method of even selecting Aux in, never mind having a connector.

Thanks, Gerald. :D

Many audio20 units dont have the necessary plug on the rear in the quadlock connector though so it means the audio20 coming out to have the connection fitted.

Hi Malcolm

You are correct of course, the unit does have to come out.

However, The mod on the German site involves Hijacking the single CD signal path inside the Audio 20 and running a lead with 3.5mm jack plug or socket outside the unit. This has to be done because the Audio 20 head unit in question will not allow selection of Aux in via the buttons on the front of the unit.

Do the instructions you have also show how to enable the "Aux in" selection from the front panel? I would be very interested in a copy of the instructions if you would be so kind Malcolm. :)

And now off to write my next post regarding the Pre heater booster on my W211 which is showing a current and stored fault code.

Gerald.

Yes, it's for the W211.

Thanks, Gerald.

P.S. Any thoughts on my Booster Heater problem?

Audio20 on a pre my2009 W211 does not have AUX input available on the back of the head unit. So you are looking at a disassemble of the audio unit to find an output. Or of course you could fit a MOST Dension gateway instead.

I'm curious too. So, who has the details or where do I find them?
Also, if wiring directly into the cd player outputs, presumably you need to select "CD"?
I assume you have to have the player empty but in which case, does it still select
So how does this work, is it a case of keeping the volume down to a level on the MP3? Any risk of damage to the audio20 if its played too loud?

Hi Folks.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I've been away for a few days.

The details and links are all contained in the first post in this thread but if anybody would like to PM me I can send the details again.

Cheers, Gerald.

A web search should bring this mod up, you have to dismantle the radio and add the wire to the PCB.
