Hello All

Just joined this forum. I'm on my 2nd Merc. Had a '96 C180, thought that was wonderful, last week traded it in for a '92 420SEC - well! - as you can imagine, I'm in car heaven now!!!!!

This one's a coupe, of course, so I'm a bit worried about deterioration in the seals around the windows. They're ok now, the driver door has dropped very slightly - but no leaks at all as far as I can see and I'd like to keep it that way. A Golf Cabriolet owner told me to rub a bit of Vaseline on the surfaces of the rubber which touch the glass - is this advisable? And what about getting the driver door hinge pins replaced - would that be worth doing? And I assume that when putting her though a jetwash I should stand back a bit with the high pressure hose when I'm doing the windows.

All tips appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

i have a an old stacklight 280ce and i wouldnt go anywhere near the windows with a jet wash, no way they'll keep that much water out, having said that mine are fine and its 34 years old, if its been standing out in the rain all night i normally find a couple iof dribbles on the door panels below the top of the windscreen, other than that it has never leaked, good job really what with the price of window rubbers!

Thanks very much. Perhaps when jetwashing I'll direct the gun vertically upward and just let the water fall on the windows :) Purple 200 sounds nice, but I can't find any pics on Google.

Hello and welcome:D:D

Silicon is the perfect sealer for rubber, get a tube or tub, plumbers merchants sell it. I use it on my 230

Forestfine sell replacement seals at pretty reasonable prices:

SEC seals here:

shame they dont do window rubbers for my coupe, Mercedes were charging well over 200 quid a side for them, im gonna get some door top weather stripping now though so cheers that links handy.
