Good Afternoon

I intend to change the oil on my E200 but need to know if is carb or injection - How can I tell?

Also The oil filter is like no other I have seen - It is just a filter which you pop into the filter hole after unscrewing the lid. Please can anyone advise the procedure for oil change and also how to zero the service clock with the flickering spanner to zero miles.

ManyThanks

Same as any other car really, drain from the bottom, replace filter once drained, fill up with fresh oil, bobs your uncle. Service reset should be in your manual IIRC.

Always best to do it warm, take out filter, take out drain plug, catch oil, wipe the oil off your arm to the elbow.wait till just the odd drip (10 mins) when you replace the filter smear a little oil on the rubber washers. refill fill to high mark on stick, start engine do not rev till oil light is out. Stop engine and fill again to high mark on stick. Be happy:grin: that you know whats in the engine

The way to reset the service indicator is

Turn Key to position '2' and immediately press Button '1' [on the instrument display] twice quickly.
The service miles will appear on the display Within 10 secs of doing this turn key back to position '0' [off]
Press button '1' again and hold whilst turning key back to position '2' Keep the button pressed until you hear a sound signal [about 15secs]

Couple of thoughts:-

Check the quantity of oil required for oil/filter change and use no more. I've noticed on my MBs that it takes some time for all the new oil to drain to the sump and hot oil always registers higher levels than cold oil (expansion)

When I do an oil change I invariably clean or replace the plugs. I always spin the motor up on the starter to get oil pressure up before starting as this is the only way to fill the oilways off load. The starter takes some stick but it is on light load and is cheaper to replace than rebuilding the engine. You can tell whether the oil's up to pressure by the change in the sound of the spinning engine. Once up to pressure, plugs in and start her up. One last thing, only do this in a well vented garage with the bonnet fully open as fuel/gas comes out the plug holes.
