Hi

I have w202 MY 2000 C class. Tried activating the child lock for the rear doors, but after following the manual and clicking the switch downwards, the doors won't shut?

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

have you got the central locking open when pressing down lever. although that shouldn't make any difference.

i really want to say try closing the door by applying pressure on the open door in the direction of the car.....unless you have auto closing..

however, i shall refrain. as pascal says....you need to unlock all the doors.....then with the doors unlocked you should push the catch for the child lock in which ever direction it goes.......the door should close ok but obviusly you will only be able to open from the outside handle.....

but it may have come adrift inside the lock mechanism...which means the lock is staying in the lock position...and that will need some fixing.

so try the above and get back to us.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I have tried it with the central lock off (unlocked) and on (locked) no difference - once I 'engage' the child lock lever, the door doesn't shut. Help needed; I dont want my little one tumbling out of the car as I take a bend...!

I have't had a four door for years but this may be woth a try.

Try pushing the switch down whilst holding the outide handle in the open position.

PS: The fact that this is happening on both rear doors, leads me to suspect that you are doing something wrong, rather than a fault (but I still also believe in 'Murphy's Law')

Are you sure you are clicking the little leaver down, and not the catch itself???

From your explanation it sounds like you are clicking the door latch down and not the little leaver. The childlock leaver is a small switch next to the latch.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, I was pressing the door lever not the child lock switch which is just above the lever. Works OK now. My wife won't let me hear the last of it now :-(

Thanks all.....
