How to launch a tiptronic?

While my car's being repaired, or at least the promise of repair hangs in the air, I thought - or rather was having a think. I have owned several cars till now, and driven countless others, all of which - by providence - have been manual. Easy enough to launch in most - shut off the traction control/ESP, engage first, foot on clutch - find the sweet spot on the rev band and slowly but sure ease the clutch while keeping the gas constant. Floor as soon as clutch fully released.

Now - and I have not tried this on my car - I wonder if this would be possible with a tiptronic (ok, a 7-G tronic, as labelled by Maersaedeez Baenz). Sure it is, I hear you say. Then quickly tell me the procedure, pray?

Slip to neutral, hold at around 4000 revs, then slip to drive? But no, if I remember correctly, the brake needs to be pressed to shift. So the foot comes off the accelarator!

So I wonder - to all you knowledgeable peeps - especially ones with the fancy 55 AMG trinkets! Have you done it, and if you have, how do you do sir?

Thanks/Adios

if you play with high revs and slip it in D you will end up breaking the Half shafts along with other things. Turn off the ESP if you wish, you leave it in D the whole time, when the lights go green, just stamp on the throtle.

If you adapt to 2 foot braking, you will find that the engine will not go until your foot is off the brake.

Leave the ESP alone. It saves lives and reduces accidents by up to 40% according to NCAP. Just press the throttle and off you go. Auto is the only civilised way to travel IMO.:)

LOL - isn't the point of owning such a beautiful car to sit at the lights for 20 seconds while the roof goes down, holding up all other traffic, and then pull away slowly so that the maximum number of people can give you admiring and envious glances?

Save the power until you have a gti or a tdi pratt up yur butt on the open road then show him what a real car does when you floor it :)

Mine will move from N to D without pressing the brake, so I could do as you say. But with the torque that this car has I would tear the back axle off.

It reminds me of a thread on the U/S forums "How slow have you driven your MB"

Re the lights, you sit there at green while the roof goes down, and stamp on the throtle at amber.

On my ML 270 auto, depending on how I feel at the time I will pull off at a slow pace and enjoy the smoothness of it all or just floor it and feel the power and torque and watch everything else getting smaller in the rear view mirror.

The best way i've found to get up and go is to keep my left foot on the break softly whilst balancing the revs at about 2000 or 2500 and as the lights change, not to stomp on the gas but down about half way till half way through 2nd then stomp!
It's the way i was shown in a twin turbo supra at 10 of the best.
although that thing went like something off a shove any way.

Merc auto's are not too bad off the line (even the diesel ones) but some diesel autos - Volvo's and Ford's spring to mind - really need to the engine to be spooled up while the car's held on the brake if you want to get on to a roundabout etc in to fast moving traffic.
