How to open rear door W204 saloon

My neighbour has a W204 saloon and the rear passenger door will not open, either with the external nor the internal door handle. The interior pop-up button is raised but can't open door. Any pointers of where to start gratefully received. Rear doors on the car very rarely used. Central locking both on key fob and interior buttons, works on all other doors.
