How to refit wing mirror in C Class?

Hi,

I whacked my wing mirror off a telegraph pole Going through a poorly "Traffic calmed" section of road...) and the mirror part dropped out.

It's hanging by two wires but it looks as though everything is still in one piece.

I've tried clicking it back into place but I can't seem to get it to take proper hold and it just drops out every time the door is shut.

Does anyone know of a "Trick" to do this? Problem is it's a 1.5 hour round trip to the dealer from my workplace so I'd like to just do it myself.

It's a current model C Class.

TIA

Martin

Here's how...

Might help someone else.

Before you start take a moment to look at the spring clip system on the back of the mirror. Notice that when you push the lever end down, the spring moves up to allow fitting\ removal from the round motorized holder in the wing mirror unit.

Angle the motorized holder inside the mirror unit in towards car. This will give you a wee bit extra room when you come to use the screwdriver to push the spring lever down later.

Click the two lugs at the bottom of the mirror onto the round holder by pushing the mirror up from the bottom first...

Now the tricky bit.

You need to use a thin screwdriver to push down the "Lever" end of the spring clip at the top of the mirror as you push it in.

When you get it right, you'll hear a wee click as it locks on and the mirror will feel secure.

My mistake was that I kept trying to click the top of the mirror in first. However, that means you cannot then click in the two lugs at the bottom.

All of the above looks like Greek when you read it, but it does make sense once you have looked at the mirror and holder.

Regards
