How to reset Air-Conditioner after being topped up.

Hi.
The A/C in my CLS stopped working a few days ago.
Being an A/C engineer I checked the pressure and found the system to be very short of refrigerant.
Topped up with R134a checked for any leaks none found but could not get the compressor to engage the A/C light on the dash flashes and goes off.
Does any one know how to reset the air-conditioner after being topped up.

As far as I know this can only be done on STAR, and this was the case on my car, and indie should be able to do it for a few pounds, it is quick to do
