Looking for some advice on testing the intercooler on my R reg 310D for a leak; first of all (excuse my ignorance!) but the intercooler *is* the matrix sitting front of the rad. isn't it? I had a rev-sensitive hiss which I traced as close as I could to the bottom nearside hose output on that matrix, and have just spent a merry Sunday tearing the front off the vehicle to get at it (actually a much simpler job than I thought). Now it's off - how do I check it does actually have a leak? Judging from the hiss, which sounded like a cobra with a terminal puncture, I'm guessing there's a fair few psi running thru it, and my cunning plan of stuffing blutack in one end and blowing hard down the other did little other than blowin the blutack out and making my ears pop :???:

I've read a few posts here about the MAF sensor, which I've identified on the top air hose; could this be a cause of a hiss? and if so, is the sensor itself malfunctioning, or its seating springing a leak?

Wouldn't mind being back on the road by wednesday, as I'm due in Cornwall (gulp!) Thanks in advance, Jim

as you've taken it off you could take to a local vehicle radiator repairer/builder as they should be able to test it properly in a minutes. cheers shaun
