On our last Merc we had a problem that if we left our dog locked in the car for a few minutes the alarm would go off. We never did manage to work out how to turn the interior sensor off and are having the same problem again with the new car. We still don't have any manuals for the car and wondered if anyone else happens to know if there is a switch or something in the car that will disable the interior sensor

Hi Lyn,

There will either be a button on the dash or overhead console with what looks like a small car and semi-circular waves coming off it. Press this after you have switched off the car then when you lock it the interior motion sensors will be switched off.

Thanks Blobcat I will look for that and see if it works. There were times with the last Merc that I would sit in the locked car myself while my other half popped into a shop and I would lock the doors as I was a bit scared to be sitting alone in a car park. Even if I sat really still the stupid sensor would still pick me up and the alarm would go off :(

Manual extract:
This is the button you're looking for. Press the bottom half

OK, dragging this thread back up!!

I appreciate that pressing the lower half of the button disables the motion sensor, BUT...

My owners manual says.... Press the lower half of the switch. Lock the car with the electronic key. The motion sensor is deactivated until the car is again locked with the electronic key.

That actually makes more sense now I've typed it out, but am I to assume that you have to press the button EVERY time you want to disable the motion sensor, and the disabling only lasts 'one lock'?

The manual is correct. What I have found confusing is what triggers what. i.e. if you are on a ferry I find the alarm is triggered even though the interior motion sensor has been de-activated. It seems that in this case you need to de-activate the tow-away sensor as well.

This could also apply if you lock yourself in the car. Your movement could affect the tow-away sensor.

The tow-away sensor is a tilt sensor and can even be activated by jacking up the car. It is probably this tilt sensor that is set off by the ferry movement. Just press the upper half of the switch and the de-activation will last for one locked up period of the car as before.

Hi does anyone know where this switch is located. Can't find it anywhere, for some reason the electronic lock on the key has packed up so can only unlock the car with the key and now the alarms just keeps going inside as soon as I step in.

On mine it's an option on the dash that you can choose from when you leave the car, one is switching off the interior sensors, another is telling it to ignore the tilt switch and the other is something else that I've forgotten. So no when I switch the ignition off, I have the option of pressing the volume + button on the steering wheel to turn the sensors off.

Reading your other thread.
The above doesn't turn the alarm off, just turns off the interior sensor so you can leave your dog in there

Thanks Emily's dad, my one is a old one so doesn't have the electronic dash part. So won't be able to go down that root I'm afraid.
