Are the Merc original one's strictly necessary ? Like I could presumably put "normal" (but good quality, M'Lud) leads on ?

The never ending hunt for the W124 cold start trouble continues....

I have foergoten what they used, any will work, MB sell it by the meter,
off the roll, if the ressistor type and you go solid you will have to add a supressor.

Not sure what you mean; the MB ones have big metal bits on them at the plug end; might these contain something other than carbon fibre threads ?

There is solid copper, or carbon string leads, the copper ends have a spike that goes up the center of cable making contact with carbon string.
if you replace with those there will be no interference problems, if you replace with copper a external supressor will have to be fitted.
