Hello MERC-ANARIES,

I opened my 280 CE Coupe (1985 W123) this weekend to find a large amount of water in the left hand back seat(about 1.5 Pints!!!). I checked all the seals and for any water flow lines/marks coming into the car but couldnt find anything, im sure its not leaking windows or doors.

Has any1 else come across this problem with their Coupe or know of a common problem and how to solve it?

My neighbour has the same car and his car had puddles on both sides!!

Cheers!!

Do you have a sunroof?

If so, I suspect your run offs are blocked.

Have you checked the boot seals?
I'm guessing this happened during the 48 hour downpour - this is when lots have older cars have their resistance breached!

I have bought new boot seals, planning to put them on after the respray. But even if it was the boot seals theres no runs for water to get into the interior?

Maybe I just need to get a car cover to solve this one? Any1 know of any cheap good ones?

Cheers Andy.

Thats what I suspected, I thought its coming in from the front. I've ripped up the mats and dried it out. Gona hose it down next weekend and see where waters coming in from.

Puddles

The sunroof seals don't prevent water coming in, only wind. The water drains along the channels at either side of the sunroof and own into drains at the corners. If the drains are blocked then the water can run down the door and windscreen pillars and onto the floor.
Compressed air into the drains is a good way to clear them out.
