Hi All,

My first post here. I'm looking at getting a c350e for my wife, 2016 model. I have a Tesla and Leaf currently and am able to look on the car computer to show me how 'healthy' the HV Lithium battery is - Its a blunt instrument as you cant see the health of individual cells, nevertheless it works.

Is there anywhere i can find the same info on the Mercedes? Keen to find this before i hand over fist fulls of ££ to a dealer.

Many thanks, Anthony
I dont think there is a way to check battery health

Hi all. I'm looking to buy a c350e and wondering if anyone here has replaced the hybrid battery and what was the total cost. I love the car however I'm quite concerned with this aspect.

In short thousands to replace a battery, there are a few people that now replace individual cells rather than the entire battery but I’ve no idea on what they charge I’m afraid

Maybe worth looking at a Mercedes extended warranty.

We did one about a year ago on an e class. The cost of the battery was £4900 for the exchange unit or £6900 for a new one....

Have a look here - the owner brought a car over from Eiurope and when his battery played up as I recall the pricing was circa £13K! IIRC He found a specialist battery reconditioner who rebuilt it for less than £2K and in the end he said it was perfect but no thanks to MB!

I was going to say, it's unlikely all the cells in the pack would die simultaneously, only one or two would go out of spec.

We rebuild the packs for vectrix electric motorbikes and plan to do the same for MB EV's. It will give more choice than Mercedes limited choice.

Out of curiosity what type of battery's are fitted in most electrical cars, is it lead acid or lithium ion?

What is the typical self discharge rate that you are seeing in your c350e HV battery?

I had my 2017 C350e tested and the battery is at 92% max capacity (which seems OK to me) but it self discharges by about 1 to 1.5% per day and that seems a bit concerning.

That seems reasonable to me. There are lots of things that draw a current even when you're parked up. Bear in mind Mercedes hybrids haven't got massive batteries. Even your mobile phone loses charge when not used. Unless you're leaving it for long periods without driving it shouldn't be an issue

Hi guys

Recently purchased a c350e estate as I really like the look of them. And also wanted to dip my toes in the electric car/hybrid waters.

Long story short, my car suddenly cut off whilst driving and left a “Malfunction” message along with a battery icon on the dash.
A quick look in the owners manual states a hybrid system fault.
I’m really dreading taking it in to mercedes as I’m anticipating them wanting to change the HV battery and charging me ££££s which I feasibly cannot afford right now.

It hasn’t been a month yet since I purchased the car so its still under the car dealers warranty but they’re 200 miles away from me in London.

I have scoured the web and searched everything hybrid battery related and mercedes indies, phoned every specialist within London and nobody seems to be able to help.

i wondered if anyone knows any independent hybrid technicians who would be willing to help

Thank you

There is no other sensible option. Notwithsatanding the content of the so called Dealer`s warranty he is responsible for fixing, at his cost, the particular problem and any others which might arise for 6 months from the date of purchase.

As an aside you could telephone and discuss matters with Richard Farwell of Hybridbattery solutions.co.uk, but do NOT let him or anyone touch the vehicle. It is solely the Selling Dealer which is responsible.

Thanks for the replies guys. I had been contemplating taking it back however the car isn't starting and the dealer is near Stoke-On-Trent whilst I'm based in London. I'm wondering what my best possible route is to taking it back. I have enquired with some car transporting firms and got quotes back ranging from £260 - £320. Should I go ahead and let them or is there any other (potentially better) way of getting it to the dealers'?

Cheers again

As you've only just bought it I should think you have cover by Mobilo ? -And they should be able to trailer the car to the dealer so they can sort it out. But NB: As already mentioned, don;t let others touch it - the selling dealer has responsibility to rectify the problem(s).

I'm sorry to hear this news - good luck with gettig it sorted,

btw: There is a posting over a year old - a chap from Portugal (I think) bought a ised MB Hybrid in Germany and had trouble in UK. A long story but in the end he found a specialist who overhauled the battery cells and at the end he was very happy. I'll try to find the posting...

Richard is near Northampton.
It is for the dealer to make the necessary arrangements to resolve HIS problem.
