Hello all

I’m the proud owner of a 1983 230TE

A couple of flaws but v.sound

The first car I have ever enjoyed driving slowly.:)

There is a reservoir marked :confused this is now on the low level marker.
By process of elimination I assume this is for power steering could some one confirm this and recommend the correct product to top up with.

Much appreciated

Is this on the power steering pump driven by the fan belt.

It will probably be for the rear self-levelling suspension. The PS reservoir is part of the pump and can't be viewed without taking the top off

I beleieve Hibbo is correct here, but could you post a picture to clarify. If you put the wrong fluid in the self leveling suspension, it would cause you a headache. Thanks.

As an aside, should the SLS hyd fluid be changed as a service item? Or is it a ballache to do, and should be left till the spheres are done?
My w124 estate is just aboot to turn 170k and is on its original spheres, going to give it a full service soon.

I think a bitch of a job comes to mind, better to top up the system , when required, until the pressure bowls (spheres) fail. And when one does, do a system overall and change both plus the fluid. When this system is working ok, its far better to leave well enough alone.;) Please trust me on this one:shock:

I'm 99% certain that that is for your SLS.

The car being an auto is irrelevant; there is no reservoir for the autobox, all the fluid is contained in the box itself.

Look up your car at www.detali.ru and look up the SLS, it should show the location of the reservoir.

Got to be SLS :)

I have a horrible feeling that the power steering shares the same tank.

this is a 123.
