I met Phil, a long standing user of the Race Glaze water filter on Sunday, with his beautifully restored classic Daimler Double Six.

He raves about these, and his paintwork reflects the fact that he doesn't have to dry the car, reckons its the best car care product he has ever purchased and the title of this is a quote from him.

So - a question or two if I may..
Have you looked at these ?

Do so many highly positive reviews put you off - the classic 'if it looks too good to be true...'

What issues can you see which stop you buying one ?

We have sold thousands of them, are the UK market leader in car wash filters and I personally guarantee they do everything the website says. I'm sure there are some users on here who may chip in, but now is definitely the time to buy to maximise use over the summer - a summer potentially without water spots, a job done quicker and more easily.

If I could, pressure wash my car, then shampoo it, then rinse it with a pressure washer and then simply rinse it thoroughly with the Race Glaze filtered water and walk away knowing it would look great. Then I'd be in :) Is it really that simple?

If it is, I would be happy to buy one and give it a go.

Just get a water softener installed in your house and you can have a beautifully streak free car and a house with no limescale too. We have 2 outside taps, 1 is hard water, the other is softened water and it works a treat on the car.

You are very lucky indeed, you live in a wonderful part of the country and you have soft water too :)
Unfortunately I don't actually live in The Lakes .... but that's where our water comes from. ;)

If you open up the picture in my avatar, that's where I live ..... :)

Yes, it really is that simple. Even on a black car left to dry in bright sunlight, water just evaporates leaving no residue whatsoever.

Its proven tech, we have sold thousands, see the reviews on the site but I guarantee you will be chuffed to bits with your purchase

  • WILL WATER SOFTENERS DO THE SAME THING?
Water Softeners change dissolved hardness into dissolved sodium bicarbonate which removes limescale. However, if you boil off the resultant water you will have a residue at the end of the process – which will be left on your car if you use softened water to wash it and let it dry in the sun.Our filter totally removes all dissolved solids and there will be nothing left on your car after sun drying. They are different process designed to do different things. Our resin vessels are made in Europe (many are not) and comprise a PE inner shell and wound fibreglass outer. These are high quality, strong units with best quality fittings and top grade resin. When fitting your RG Filter, either use the softened water or direct from the mains – it wont affect the outcome or resin life.

The price would put me off!
With cars your size, and obviously dependent on how hard your water is, you should get 60 or so rinses from the smallest 7 litre filter. So thats c. £2 per rinse, down to 75p/rinses when you're into the refills.
Obviously down to you how you value your time, cost of buying drying towels, risk of marring and the chance to get inside and put the kettle on a bit sooner !

So, it finally stopped raining long enough to consider washing the car and trying out my new Race Glaze filter.

I should start by saying that the car was not filthy (having been washed by the body shop that did my wheel refurb on Thursday), but it had been driven several miles on very wet roads with lots of spray - so definitely looked like it needed a clean.

Started by giving the car a good jet wash with normal mains water, Then shampoo with Turtle Wax car shampoo. Then thoroughly rinsed off with a hosepipe and mains water. Finally I connected up the Race Glaze filter and gave the car another quick rinse (I would say about 90 - 120 seconds). Then just left it to dry. Half the car was in full sunlight and the other half was in the shade.

So, the big question DOES IT WORK? Well, surprisingly /unsurprisingly the answer is YES :) It dried without leaving any water marks on the paintwork - just as if I'd spent time and effort drying it with a cloth and that is something I couldn't achieve with just mains water.

If I get 40 washes out of the current unit, then that works out at less than £3 a wash - which for me is well worth it. Buying refills will slash the cost further, so happy days. :)

@Developer (John) always had a DI vessel for rinsing his car off and his cars were normally immaculate.

He swore by his as he could wash the car early in the morning before a meet, give it a quick rinse and then just drive off without any streaks appearing. Personally, I don't use them as I usually have the time to dry mine before going anywhere.

Years ago Flash produced a car wash device which was a hand held hose attachment which included a super water filter for the final rinse. I think the initial price put people off plus the feeling that once purchased you'd be tied too them for shampoo and filter replacements

The problem with them was that the resin capacity was tiny so they didnt last long and weren't refillable, so turned out costly too.

One benefit of ours is that they are refillable, which lowers ongoing costs to less than half the initail purchase price, saves the planet and are larger so you don't continually find its run out of filtration capacity when come back later and find your car is covered in water spots

I bought one of these during lockdown and it really works well.
You can chew our water here and I can final rinse the blue E400 and leave with absolutely no spots or watermarks.
It's a revelation!

Use it for final rinse only on each car, 1 every weekend.
Lasted just under three years before the little meter started to register ppm and I bought refill resin granules (messy but simple)

Hours saved each month wiping down and drying!
